Wehde Estate Gift
Northern State University has received an estate gift from the late Robert Wehde, establishing a permanent endowment in support of special education within the Millicent Atkins School of Education.
The gift creates the Robert and Marian Wehde Scholarships, which will support NSU students majoring in special education and help train teachers dedicated to serving learners with diverse needs. Wehde established a Charitable Remainder Trust years ago with the sole purpose of supporting educators who work with students with different needs.
The endowed fund will provide scholarships to special education majors at Northern State University, helping the university recruit and support students committed to serving learners across the region.
This amazing gift is an investment in students at every level,” said Dr. Anna Schwan, dean of the Millicent Atkins School of Education. “For Northern students, these scholarships will open doors to a meaningful career in special education. For K-12 students, they will help ensure that more children have access to caring, well-prepared teachers who understand their strengths, support their needs, and help them thrive.”
The Millicent Atkins School of Education prepares educators who serve communities across South Dakota and the region, with a strong emphasis on meeting the needs of all learners.
